1. Say it aloud testSay the name ten times, then say it as if answering a phone. If you stumble, mumble, or have to spell it out, customers will too.
2. Google the exact nameSearch the name in quotes and scan several pages of results. You need to know what already ranks for it — and whether any of it is negative.

7. Search app stores and marketplacesSearch the Apple App Store, Google Play, and any marketplace relevant to your product. A same-named app can crowd you out of search results even without a legal conflict.
8. Run a linguistic and cultural screenCheck what the name means in the languages and slang of your target markets. Ask native speakers — machine translation misses connotation.
9. Sleep on itWait at least a week before registering anything. Names that survive a week of doubt, and still sound right after the other eight checks, are the ones worth committing to.

Why Due Diligence Beats Inspiration

Most naming disasters are not creative failures — they are verification failures. The founder who builds a brand on a name that an existing company already ranks for, or that means something unfortunate in a key market, rarely lacked imagination. They lacked a checklist.

Run every finalist through all nine steps, not just your favorite. The point of the sleep-on-it rule at the end is that due diligence protects you from your own enthusiasm: a name that still excites you after a week of scrutiny is a far safer bet than one you registered the same afternoon.
